The Tambaram Corporation is set to revolutionize how residents access civic amenities by expanding its QR code-based service delivery system. Following a successful pilot program, the corporation plans to integrate more services, making it easier for citizens to pay taxes, obtain certificates, and report issues.

Key Takeaways

  • Tambaram Corporation is adopting QR code technology to enhance civic service delivery.
  • The initiative aims to simplify processes like tax payments and certificate issuance.
  • A pilot project in East Tambaram has shown positive results, paving the way for wider implementation.

Pilot Project Success in East Tambaram

The Tambaram Corporation, formed from the merger of several municipalities and panchayats, has initiated a pilot project in Division 48 of East Tambaram to deliver facilities via QR codes. This program, launched over three months ago, saw revenue officials conduct a door-to-door campaign to enroll property owners. Out of 2,797 enrolled property owners, over 150 opted out of the scheme.

Enhanced Citizen Services Through QR Codes

In the initial phase, residents with affixed QR codes linked to their property details can conveniently make online payments for property and water taxes. They can also download birth and death certificates and submit complaints regarding civic issues. This digital approach aims to reduce the need for physical visits and streamline administrative processes.

Future Expansion Plans

Encouraged by the positive feedback from residents, Commissioner Alagu Meena has announced plans to extend the QR code mechanism to the remaining 69 divisions of the Tambaram Corporation. In the coming months, as the system is rolled out in phases across all divisions, additional services such as building plan permissions and other features will be brought under the purview of the QR code scheme. This expansion signifies a commitment to modernizing civic governance and improving the overall citizen experience.
