About QR Codes
Over the last couple of years QR codes have rapidly gained popularity, largely thanks to NHS track and trace posters and vaccine passport awareness.
With this extensive exposure and the realization that people understand how they work, more businesses realized they can harness the power of QR codes for a wide range of applications.

Here are some of the more innovative ways they are being used…
Estate Agents
Estate agents have come to use QR codes very effectively, with the cost of newspaper advertising being so expensive; with the inclusion of a single QR codes in their advertising they can direct a potential customer to a guided tour around a property including pictures and descriptions of every room, something that would not be practical in printed media.
Cinemas
Cinemas include them on the posters they display in the multiplexes, scanning the QR codes will take you to a video trailer of the film being advertised.
From Cinemas to high-street shops and the packaging on shelves; QR codes have already had a profound impact on many UK based industries!
Bricks and mortar shops
Bricks and mortar shops have started using QR codes that take visitors to their product range allowing them to browse from their mobile phone, and then allow them to make a purchase online or decide what they would purchase the next time they visited the store.
Department Stores
During the Christmas period, John Lewis used QR codes to promote the iPhone and Android apps for Waitrose; you could do the whole of your Christmas shopping on your mobile phone thanks to their little QR codes.
QR codes are fast appearing in places you might least expect.
Insurance Companies
A more engaging QR codes experience recently came courtesy of AXA. AXA created a television commercial that included QR codes, this QR code literally enabled you to step into the advert from your mobile phone and interact with the advert in a way never previously seen.
Big Name Brands
When Wilkinson Sword released their Hydro-5 razor they embedded QR codes within their shelved-product advertisements. The QR code took users to a mobile web-page where they could see the Hydro-5 in action and enter themselves into a contest to win prizes.

QR codes were even used at the British Grand Prix (Silverstone) where guests of the event could scan QR codes scattered around the track and stands. Once they had scanned the QR codes, the guests could instantly leave feedback about the event and how they might improve it.
Another innovation to use QR Codes is Review Cards, where unique a QR code directs people to review portals such as Google or Facebook.
Rather than ask customers to search the internet and hope they leave a review, savvy business owners harness the power of QR codes to take them there at the tap of a button.
Businesses with service staff train their staff to ask for reviews at every opportunity, leaving the client with a review card to make it easier for the reviewer to find the review page.
Businesses can incentivise their staff using a reward-based system to get the most reviews.
Review cards for restaurants let the server add their name so the customer can identify each staff member.

How can this QR codes technology benefit all of us?
A few years ago, someone came out with the idea of attaching business cardholders to the side of vehicles, Accountants, Plumbers, Printers, Driving Schools, Electricians, Pet Sitters, Aroma therapists, in fact any business that uses its vehicles to advertise with, in the hope that a potential client might pick a card up.
Technology moves on and the business card holder has moved on to QR codes, people don’t need a pen and paper any more, you don’t run the risk of a potential client picking up your business card and then losing it, never to be heard of.
Now a single scan of one of your QR codes can add your details to their contact list on their mobile, along with tap to call telephone numbers, working e-mail links and connections to any page on your website, Checkatrade, TrustATrader or Facebook pages.
