What makes a printed QR code scannable?

A QR code needs an empty margin around all four sides. Text, borders and graphics must not intrude into this area.

Allow for scanning distance
Small codes need close-range scanning. Codes intended for signs, machinery or displays must be larger so they can be scanned from the expected distance.

Scanning the artwork on a monitor is not enough. Always test the actual printed QR code at its final size and location.
